Styrene / Plasticard 1 sheet 1.5 mm
Styrene Plastic 1.5 mm
Styrene is a liquid that binds in chains to form high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) in solid form, which is one of the most commonly used plastics with the general name Plasticard or Evergreen. HIPS is lightweight and easy to work with, making it a favorite of hobbyists and model builders.
Plasticard, also known as model building plastic, is a versatile material that is widely used in model railways, slot cars, prototypes and various craft and scratch-building applications. It is available in smooth sheets, textured sheets and profiles and can be easily cut, shaped and glued, making it a popular choice for model builders and hobbyists. Plasticard can be made of three main types of materials: ABS, polystyrene plastic and uPVC (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride), each with different characteristics.
This type of material is, compared to ABS and uPVC, particularly easy to cut, scratch and bend, which enables precise and detailed designs. It can be glued with cyanoacrylate adhesives and special adhesives for plastics that are compatible with this material, creating very strong bonds. The smooth surface accepts paint well, which yields excellent results for finished models. However, this material may not be as durable as ABS when exposed to high stresses.
Styrene plastic is used in fantasy model building, military model building, slot cars, as well as in model or scale model building or scratch-building processes.
